    Global Love Report Interview

Global Love Report (GLR): What made you decide to become a dating and relationship coach?

Liseth Kingery (LK): I decided to become a dating and relationship coach because of my own love journey.

I was single for so many years and despite all my good intentions and efforts, finding a lasting relationship was a source of frustration and pain in my life. When I finally committed to my desire and became the person I wanted to be with, I experienced healing and growth, not only in my romantic life but in other areas, too.

I knew deep inside that there were many other single women out there who were struggling in their love life and if I could contribute to making their journey easier and faster, I’d do it. I decided to get the skills and knowledge as a Coach.

GLR: How do you think singles will benefit from a matchmaker with coaching skills?

LK: I am not a matchmaker.

GLR: What’s something new that you’ve learned that you’re excited to implement in your own business?

LK: I learned good strategies to help my clients successfully navigate early dating challenges such as how to know if something is serious, how to combat jealousy, when to have sex, and how to handle disagreements. Also, I learned practical tips for great first dates. Both are things that clients ask about a lot.

GLR: What’s something that you learned from the course that surprised you?

LK: I was surprised by so many myths about romantic relationships that I thought were true. For example, there was a definite period of time after a breakup before getting out there and dating again. Or that women have more romantic thoughts and feelings about romantic love than men or that they fall in love faster than men.

GLR: Who do you aspire to be as a coach (e.g. Matthew Hussey, James Preece, etc.)? And why?

LK: I respect the work that Mark Grooves, the founder of Create the Love has done. But I would like to see more women being leaders in the love industry and that is really my aspiration.

  • The Potential of Partnerships in the Matchmaking Business

    partnerships with other matchmakers

    Global Love Report – March 6, 2024
    Written by Margaret W

The matchmaking industry is continuing to grow, despite competition from the online dating industry. However, some matchmakers may face issues with finding the right match for their clients. They require collaborations that can elevate their services to new heights.

    Exploring Partnerships with Other Matchmakers

In such situations, partnerships can initiate significant changes. By partnerships with other matchmakers, you can be provided with fresh perspectives, and new ideas, and it may even lead to a business expansion.

However, some matchmakers may hesitate to form partnerships due to various reasons. But what if the potential benefits outweigh the risks?

If you’re unsure about how to start forming partnerships, we have some suggestions for you!

    Join a Membership Organization

Consider joining an organization for matchmakers, which provides you with a platform for growth and achieving your goals. Being part of an organization of industry professionals allows you to get to know other members and identify potential partners.

    Attending Events

You can find potential partners with other matchmakers by attending events. Here, you can speak directly with people working in this industry. This allows you to get to know each other and consider potential collaborations.

    Social Media Networking

You can also use social media platforms, like Instagram or LinkedIn, to find potential partners. By joining their broadcast channels or their live events on Instagram, you can discover what they are sharing and determine if they are a good fit for a partnership.

Request Collaboration in the Global Love Database

Using collaboration platforms allows you to find potential partners. It gives you the ability to view independent matchmakers or agencies, and their areas of operation.

Global Love Database platform not only lets you find potential partners that are suitable for your business but also opportunities to view singles with various criteria. However, this is limited if your collaboration request has not been accepted yet.

In conclusion, partnerships have the potential to significantly impact your business. However, this requires careful consideration and transparent, effective planning to achieve both your and your partner’s future goals.

    Global Love Report Interview

Global Love Report (GLR): What made you become a dating and relationship coach?

Amy Van Doran (AVD): I have always loved the coaching aspect of matchmaking. I started my career with a durational art piece when I was 22 called “The Matchmaker is Present” where I would advise anyone in the park who approached me needing love help.

You can’t always guarantee that you can find a client their forever perfect partner, but with coaching, you can guarantee that the client will be closer to their goal than when they started.

GLR: How do you think singles will benefit from a matchmaker with coaching skills?

AVD: Often, by the time the client comes to a matchmaker, it’s because they have been trying an old strategy that didn’t serve them.

It doesn’t matter how perfect a match you put in front of the client if they don’t have the skill set to land the date! It is crucial that any great matchmaker has the kind and generous communication strategies to help open the client’s eyes to what they can’t observe about themself.

But, always make sure the feedback is given with lots of kindness and in an emotionally safe container, if the feedback is given too harshly a client could shut down and go backward on their dating journey.

GLR: What’s something new that you’ve learned that you’re excited to implement in your own business?

AVD: Utilizing CHAT GPT to help save time in writing social media posts as well as rewriting and optimizing clients’ profiles.

GLR: What’s something that you learned from the course that surprised you?

AVD: I learned that coaching is such an empowering present-centered practice. While therapy can take years to unpack, and can sometimes even get a client stuck in past narratives, coaching calls have proved to empower and ground them in the present time. Which I’ve noticed helps them to move more swiftly towards their goals.

GLR: Who do you aspire to be as a coach (e.g. Matthew Hussey, James Preece, etc.)? And why?

AVD: Myself! Always authentically be who you are as a coach because the clients will know if you are trying to emulate someone else. The greatest gift you can give a client is the gift of your vulnerability and authentic self.

Draw from the lessons from what struggles you have gone through and overcome. If they want Matthew Hussy, there is already a Matthew Hussy for them to go to. The world needs your authentic voice!

We hope to continuously grow as an industry together by sharing these best practices with everyone!

    About Victoria Joseph

    Victoria Joseph

Victoria Joseph is the first certified matchmaker specializing in non-traditional relationships and founded Birds of a Feather Matchmaking. Based in Chicago, she caters to those who are seeking an open, ethically non-monogamous (ENM), polyamorous, or lifestyle relationship.

Discover more about her captivating journey in the interview below!

    Global Love Report Interview

Global Love Report (GLR): What was your career before entering the matchmaking industry?

Victoria Joseph (VJ): Before entering the matchmaking industry, I had a 5-year career as an active-duty military member in the U.S. Navy. After my contract ended, I obtained an MBA and wanted to start my own business, ultimately leading to my boutique matchmaking firm!

GLR: Why did you decide to become a matchmaker?

VJ: I love connecting people with people I think they’d get along with! It’s pretty rewarding to successfully ‘match’ people, whether on a friendship level or, even better, a love interest level!

I was naturally matchmaking people for years, and when I thought about how this would be the perfect career path for me, I ran with it! The idea sprung in my head while road-tripping in Iceland. After the trip, I contacted a few fellow matchmakers, and it continued to feel right every step of the way!

Upon further research, I found that no matchmakers did non-monogamous matchmaking, and I thought to myself, I would LOVE to be the first matchmaker who caters to the ENM community, so I did just that!

GLR: Did your perception of what a matchmaker is/does change after being certified?

VJ: Yes, my perception of what a matchmaker does has changed after being certified! A lot goes on behind the scenes, much more than I thought.

I have been enjoying the process of what it means to be an entrepreneur and a business owner. Matchmaking is a front-loaded business, and when done right, there’s a lot of love and thought that goes into every process we implement. There’s a lot of online and in-person work necessary to get done, and both are equally important.

GLR: What are you looking forward to as a matchmaker?

VJ: I am looking forward to bringing more love into this world! It’s an honor to be a part of my client’s journey, or anyone’s journey, really, to finding love and helping them find their forever person. It’s the most important decision that anyone can make in their life.

GLR: What cities/states/locations do you cover?

VJ: I specialize in non-traditional relationships nationwide. I also matchmake for individuals locally, in or near the Chicago area, who may be seeking a traditional relationship. This is on a case-by-case basis.

GLR: Have you met any other matchmakers? If so, how has that experience been? Are you open to collaboration in the future?

VJ: Yes, and yes! I have met matchmakers locally and at the NYC GLI Matchmaking Conference, which was a fantastic experience!! I’m looking forward to more collaborations in the future. I love helping others in any way that I can!

GLR: Do you have any words of advice for people who are still considering if they want to be a matchmaker or not?

VJ: My advice would be to continue to build up your network! The bigger your reach, the easier and faster your matchmaking business can take off. I would also figure out your ‘why’ or purpose for starting a matchmaking business, and don’t forget it!

    Rising Expenditures on Dating Apps

    Global Love Report – February 14th, 2024
    English summary by Margaret W

According to an analysis by data.ai in 2023, users in the Netherlands downloaded dating apps 4.9 million times, spending a total of 68.9 million euros, an increase of 17 million euros from the previous year.

Tinder users in the Netherlands spent 38.2 million euros and 8.9 million euros on Bumble. In the initial years, these dating apps were completely free and had limited features.

As a result, these dating apps offered premium subscriptions with more features. Linda Duits, a media scientist at Utrecht University, stated that this is very clever, as many people feel frustrated with the limitations of swiping.

The emphasis on monetary gain over user experience has led to criticism of many dating apps. The emergence of expensive subscriptions, such as Tinder’s VIP experience, is an example of this trend.

These subscriptions often offer benefits such as being visible to the most popular accounts and being able to send messages to people without a match, further promoting a culture of exclusivity.

Despite these negative aspects, dating apps continue to be a favored method for partner-seeking due to their convenience and potential for extending one’s social circle.

Duits noted that while people may be weary of dating apps, they still rely on them. This puts pressure on the apps to demonstrate their value and utility to users by innovating new features. However, the growing user frustration may eventually lead to a shift towards offline methods of connection.

    Global Love Report – February 7th, 2024
    English summary by Margaret W

Patricia Leconte, founder of Joy, a matchmaking agency based in France for people over 50, emphasizes the importance of real-world interactions and relationships based on simplicity, respect, and mutual independence.

She believes that people who join matchmaking agencies are not necessarily seeking marriage, but rather a partner that suits them without changing their lifestyles. Noting a resurgence in matchmaking agencies due to the failure of online dating, she states that her clients, especially those over 50, are more clear about what they want and need from a relationship and are typically in search of a simpler, uncomplicated relationship.

Leconte’s approach to matchmaking is based on intuition and real-world interactions rather than virtual ones. She meets her clients in person and pairs them based on her instinctive understanding of their compatibility.

The first connection is normally initiated by the man and she advises against a lengthy first date like a restaurant visit, suggesting instead a drink or a walk. Leconte also highlights the increasing loneliness in France across all generations, exacerbated by the pandemic, and notes the fear of rejection that inhibits both men and women from pursuing relationships.
