    About Rachel MacLynn

    Rachel MacLynn Matchmaker

Rachel MacLynn is the founder and CEO of MacLynn, an international dating agency that provides matchmaking and coaching based in London. She distinguishes herself through her commitment to integrity, high standards, and inclusion.

She holds a Master’s Degree in Occupational Psychology, which has provided her with a deep understanding of human behavior and relationships. Discover more about her captivating journey in the interview below!

    Global Love Report Interview

Global Love Report (GLR): What was your career before entering the matchmaking industry?

Rachel MacLynn (RM): Before I embarked on my journey into the world of matchmaking, I was immersed in the field of psychology. I hold a Master’s Degree in Occupational Psychology, which provided me with a rich understanding of human behavior and relationships. This background was instrumental in shaping my approach to matchmaking, blending psychological principles with the art of connecting people.

GLR: Why did you decide to become a matchmaker?

RM: When I first discovered matchmaking existed as a career path it immediately struck a chord with me. My choice to study psychology was based on my lifelong fascination with people and how we seek happiness.

Witnessing the transformative power of meaningful connections, I was drawn to the idea of using my psychological expertise to help people find not just love, but compatibility and lasting healthy relationships. The idea of creating a service that was more thoughtful, inclusive, and based on psychological principles was compelling to me.

GLR: What are some of the things that make being a matchmaker worthwhile in your opinion?

RM: The most rewarding aspect of being a matchmaker is seeing the profound impact that a well-matched relationship can have on an individual’s life. It’s not just about creating couples; it’s about unlocking personal growth, happiness, and fulfillment. Witnessing clients embark on journeys of self-discovery, and finding love that complements their values and aspirations, reinforces the meaningful work we do.

GLR: What are some of the challenges that you’ve had to face and how did you handle them?

RM: One of the significant challenges in this industry is managing expectations while maintaining an authentic and optimistic approach. In matchmaking, each client’s needs and experiences are unique, and sometimes, finding the right match can take time. I’ve learned that clear communication, patience, and staying true to our values and methodologies are key to overcoming these challenges.

GLR: Could you share with us some stories about your life as a matchmaker?

RM: One of my most cherished achievements was when Maclynn International was recognized as one of the world’s best matchmaking agencies. This accolade was a testament to our team’s dedication and expertise.

As for memorable clients, one that stands out is a couple who are now happily married after being introduced through our service. They now live together in an idyllic village in Switzerland. He is Swiss, she is Chinese. If you allow yourself to judge on labels and stereotypes you would see two very different people.

However, if you ignore labels and assess compatibility by focussing on core values and life goals, you see two perfectly matched individuals. This is why I am so proud of the service my team and I have curated over the years. One which embraces inclusion, empowerment, and celebrating the uniqueness of each person we have the pleasure of working with.

GLR: Do you have any words of advice for people who are new in the industry?

RM: For those new to matchmaking, my advice is to focus on building strong, empathetic relationships with your clients. Understand their stories, their dreams, and their fears. Your role is more than just a matchmaker; you are a confidant, an advisor, and at times, a coach.

Above all, maintain integrity and professionalism in every aspect of your work. When you start on your own, you are the brand. Think about what’s important to you and how you want to be known. As your business evolves and especially if you decide to grow a team, your brand will be more important than you could ever imagine.

It will shape not just how you market your business, but how you hire staff, who you hire, the types of clients you seek, and the way you deliver your service. Finally, have a plan to keep you focussed and enable the celebration of hitting your goals, but don’t be closed to new opportunities that could take you on a different path to success.

GLR: What growth plans do you have for Maclynn?

RM: We currently have offices in New York, New Jersey, and California, led by my incredible partners Gina Yannotta and Sarah Powell. We are on the lookout for a new matchmaker to join our team to help us expand into new territories in North America.

An experienced matchmaker with entrepreneurial drive, but who prefers to be part of an established team would be ideal! We will provide all systems and processes, access to our global database of exceptional singles, and ongoing support from our highly experienced and friendly team.

GLR: Could you share some of your “best practices” tips for those just starting in the industry?

RM: Firstly, keep learning – it’s especially invaluable to invest in understanding the psychology behind relationships. Build a diverse network; the wider your network, the greater your chances of making successful matches.

If you mess up, be accountable and put things right – you’ll be more respected this way. Lastly, maintain confidentiality and discretion at all times. Your clients’ trust is your biggest asset.

    Global Love Report Interview

Global Love Report (GLR): What is the name of your company?

    DeAudra (DA): Two the Coeur

GLR: Which cities/states/locations do you cover?

DA: I am based in Georgia and mainly focus on serving the lower Southeast region of the country but I accept clients from all states within the U.S. except California and New York.

GLR: What was your career before entering the matchmaking industry?

DA: Before becoming a Matchmaker, I was a Mental Health Therapist.

GLR: Why did you decide to become a matchmaker?

DA: I have always had a passion for all things love and relationships. I stumbled upon this career by happenstance at a time when I was seeking a second stream of income. Once I began the work, I knew that this industry would be more than a quick stop along my path.

After witnessing the difference in outcomes for my Christian clients compared to my non-Christian clients, I knew that I needed to start an agency to provide specialized services for those who have strong faith values and wish to maintain them and keep them in the forefront while dating.

GLR: Did your perception of what a matchmaker is/does change after being certified?

DA: I first became a Matchmaker in 2018 but didn’t start the certification process until 2022 after deciding to branch out on my own. For that reason, my perception of the role of a Matchmaker has not changed since becoming certified.

However, in the certification process, I learned more about the industry and gained several tools to improve my business as a boutique agency owner.

GLR: What are you looking forward to as a matchmaker?

DA: As a Matchmaker, I look forward to helping people prepare for the love they desire as I coach them through the dating process with hopes of connecting them to their forever person. I look forward to reports of happy, healthy relationships for years to come.

GLR: Have you met any other matchmakers? If so, how has that experience been? Are you open to collaboration in the future?

DA: I began my matchmaking career as a contractor for a large company. The role came with a community of colleagues who were amazing to work and collaborate with.

Since opening my boutique matchmaking agency, Two the Coeur, I have maintained some of those connections and have formed new ones, virtually, but I have not, yet, had the opportunity to spend time with any of my new colleagues in the industry.

I am open to collaboration and hope to continue forming relationships as I continue my journey forward. My goal is to attend the Global Love Conference in 2024 so that I can connect with fellow Professional Love Connectors in person.

GLR: Do you have any advice for people still considering if they want to be a matchmaker or not?

DA: This industry is amazing. It is a privilege to be trusted to join people on their love journeys. If you have a passion for all things love, dating, and relationships, a heart to help others, patience to navigate the challenges that come with the process, and an unwavering commitment to see people through the ups and downs of their pursuit of love, this might just be the right industry for you!

I believe that the best Matchmakers are those who lead from their hearts with love while devoting themselves to developing the necessary skills and tools to be the best at what they do!

    Global Love Report Interview

Global Love Report (GLR): What made you decide to become a dating and relationship coach? If you are a matchmaker, what made you decide to add relationship coaching to your list of skills?

Imke Evers (IE): I have a background in applied psychology, and throughout my education, I dedicated a significant amount of time and attention to coaching. I’ve been coaching for quite a while now, and when I started working at Mens & Relatie (the largest matchmaking agency in the Netherlands), I quickly fell in love with matchmaking as well!

As a matchmaker, I hear stories from singles on a daily basis, for example, about the challenges they face in finding a partner and building a meaningful relationship. Not only in my professional life but also private.

Many singles express the difficulty of finding a partner despite their strong desire, and the wide range of qualities they bring to the table, encountering various obstacles in their search. As a Matchmaker and coach, I assist my clients in overcoming these obstacles, making it much easier for them to find a romantic partner.

GLR: How do you think singles will benefit from a matchmaker with coaching skills?

IE: Finding a good match for someone is not sufficient when building a successful relationship. It’s also crucial that you are open to this new relationship, to trust each other, and that you possess the skills to establish and maintain the relationship.

Since I started providing coaching for all our candidates at Mens & Relatie, they have been finding partners much more quickly. I often hear from candidates who mention that thanks to the coaching sessions, they approach the dating process differently and with greater success.

The majority of candidates I’ve worked with have successfully found a fulfilling partner. So, it’s not just something I believe in; I can clearly see the positive impact in practice.

GLR: What’s something new that you’ve learned that you’re excited to implement in your own business?

IE: It’s fascinating to navigate the process of selling your coaching services to candidates who may not initially be open to the idea. Some clients don’t believe they need coaching and that can be a bit frustrating, especially when I clearly see the positive results of coaching.

Finding the balance between what the candidate wants and what they actually need is an art in itself. It requires a delicate touch to help them recognize the value and benefits that coaching can bring to their journey.

GLR: What’s something that you learned from the course that surprised you?

IE: It’s incredibly rewarding to discover that the coaching we offer at Mens & Relatie aligns with the course material. It’s reassuring to receive confirmation that we’re on the right track, supported by scientific research.

Being able to assess my coaching skills in the course was highly valuable. It has given me even more confidence in the belief that coaching is a fantastic and successful addition to the matchmaking process. It’s great to know that what we’re doing does not only feel right but is also backed by evidence and expertise.

GLR: Who do you aspire to be as a coach? And why?

IE: I like to draw inspiration from various excellent coaches rather than having just one as a singular example. One of my coaching teachers once told me: “A good coach, is a lazy coach.” and that quote has always stayed with me. It emphasizes the client’s active role in their own growth and development.

And highlights the importance of letting your client put in the work and make their own progress during the coaching process, rather than doing all the work for them. For me, Coaching is about guiding your client to take steps and make discoveries on their own, while you are there to provide the necessary coaching support.

GLR Spotlight is an interview series featuring Matchmakers, Dating Coaches & Relationship Experts

    Global Love Report – October 25, 2023
    Interviewed by Global Love Report

GLR Spotlight was created to feature some of our industry peers as a way for our community to get to know one another. Learn from what has worked successfully, as well as gain different perspectives and insights into various business strategies. We hope to continuously grow as an industry together by sharing these best practices with everyone!

    About Genevieve Gresset

    GLR Spotlight Genevieve Gresset

Genevieve Gresset is a Master Certified Matchmaker and Dating Coach. She has been coaching, mentoring, and matching single professionals around the world for over 30 years. Genevieve Gresset is also the VP of Brand Management, Business Development & Client Services at The Matchmaking Company

    The Matchmaking Company

    GLR Interview

Global Love Report (GLR): Could you tell us a little bit about which areas/locations you cover and about your client base

Genevieve Gresset (GG): We are an every-person agency covering 40 states across the USA we work with both men and women over 30 years old and also work with coaching-only clients.

GLR: What are the benefits of being both a Matchmaker and Dating Coach at the same time?

GG: All our coaches have been Matchmakers and now specialize in coaching and our Matchmaking team is certified by the Global Love Institute

I myself am both a Coach and Matchmaker and most of our management team in client services are skilled in both areas too. The main benefit is you can support your client throughout their whole journey.

GLR: What are some of the things that make being a Matchmaker and Dating Coach worthwhile in your opinion?

GG: In my 30+ years in the industry I feel working with a foot in each area of Matchmaking and Coaching means you have a different approach to client services and supporting your client on their journey.

The experience you gain from working in both areas is so beneficial as when you are working with coaching clients you fully understand their matchmaking journey and vice versa.  Personally, I find I am far more patient and understanding having both areas of expertise under my belt.

GLR: What are some of the challenges that you’ve had to face? And how did you handle them?

GG: Every day you have challenges when working with clients. You are working with people at their most vulnerable and most emotional. Nothing is more sensitive than supporting someone in their love life.

I think the most challenging aspect is giving feedback that isn’t positive when someone is hoping that the date will take them somewhere and they come back keen and enthusiastic but the other person does not want to see them again.

I always look at the positives that come out of the date and the learnings that were had. We support our clients and always tell them dating is a learning journey.

Even if someone doesn’t want to meet again the feedback will help to build confidence and ensure the next date is more positive all around. It’s always hard giving less positive feedback and some people take it to heart and feel disheartened.

GLR: What do you think is your biggest strength as a Matchmaker and Dating Coach?

GG: I think my biggest strength is I have been doing this for so long there is very little I have not come across, so my experience and confidence is my biggest strength. I can read people well and I use my intuition which I trust implicitly and it rarely lets me down.

GLR: Could you share with us some stories about your life as a Matchmaker?

Genevieve Gresset (GG): My personal achievement was working on Married at First Sight UK 3 years ago and helping to redo the program to ensure they got at least 1 successful couple as they had never had success up to that point.

COVID hit and we could only marry off 2 of the 4 couples but we still introduced off-camera to the other 2 couples. To this day, 3 years later 3 out of the 4 couples are still together.

There are sooooo many stories, and it’s hard to pick just one but this one stands out as they were all very different and equally lovely.

One of my most fun matchmaking stories was working with 2 sisters and then their mother. Both sisters I go married off very happily and the Mother I helped her to start dating again and re-building her confidence.

It was so rewarding working with all 3 of the women from the same family. We all met up for Lunch a few years later and it was heartwarming to watch how happy they all were. I’ve had the honor of working with so many people over the years who had given up on love and came to me as a last resort and seeing them find that confidence and embrace the dating journey was so special. We sometimes forget that it’s the small things we do that make the most impact on someone’s future relationships. It’s something I never take for granted.

GLR: Do you collaborate regularly with other Matchmakers or Coaches?

GG: We are always working with other matchmakers and coaches to provide matches and refer clients as well as work with clients who have been referred to us as they can’t afford to pay for other services and ours start at under $7000.

GLR: What do you think about collaborations in general?

GG: I think collaborations are great when there is a clear win/win for both parties. I think it becomes difficult when you see Matchmakers always asking for help with so many clients and using other agencies to fulfill their contracts.

It is obvious and creates animosity amongst established Matchmakers. It is always important to build your own database and maintain it. I personally love collaborating and have built many lovely friendships in the industry by working in partnership and bringing couples together.

GLR: What are your key strategies to advise other Matchmakers on expanding their services?

GG: This is something I spoke about at the Conference in the UK a couple of weeks ago and the key areas are: Know your strengths and weaknesses and ensure you have a budget for expansion.

Expansion isn’t a cheap process. You have to have a clear goal to follow as well. Ideally, work with someone who understands expansion and can support you as a mentor/coach to challenge you on areas you haven’t thought about or considered. Take baby steps and don’t rush it.

GLR: What is your favorite memory of a successful Coaching client? Do you have any success stories that you wish to share with us?

GG: One of my most memorable clients was a 50+-year-old female missionary who had decided to come out of her life dedicated to the church and wanted her first-ever relationship.

It was the most incredible journey that we shared from taking someone who had never kissed a man to getting her married. The coaching was intense and she was incredible embracing every step of the way. We cried and laughed together so much that it became a personal goal to work with her until she was up the aisle saying her wedding vows with someone equally special and that day came last year.

I don’t think I cried as much with happiness when she sent her wedding photos to me and called me to cry together when we de-briefed on what an incredible journey she had taken. She’s the only client I have ever cried with!

GLR: What are the lessons you have learned since you first started Coaching singles vs. now?

GG: My Coaching approach is constantly changing as I learn new tools and educate myself on newer practices. I think the most important thing as a coach is to constantly invest in your knowledge so you can support your clients better.

Every year I learn new things and read and study. I am passionate about learning so love to hear how things are changing and evolving in the coaching world. Once I get these new tools under my belt and test them out, I love to share them with the team.

My personal coaching approach is different for each client as each one has their own individual needs, hence you need more tools in your belt so you can better support a range and variety of needs.

GLR: Could you share some of your “Best Practices” tips for the people who are just starting out in the industry?

GG: Write everything down keep good notes, ask questions, and trust your intuition. If you have a client who wants to work with you but you don’t feel equipped or confident enough to work with them, then it is better to get a referral fee and pass them on to someone who can handle them than ruin your reputation.

Don’t bite off more than you can chew!!  In the beginning, I knew in my heart I shouldn’t take on a client, and did, it was always more difficult than it needed to be. Trust me when I say follow your intuition.

GLR: Do you have any words of advice for those who are new in the industry?

Genevieve Gresset (GG): Listen and learn from others, be curious, and never think you know it all. After 30+ years I’m still learning and fascinated about this industry. Keep an open mind and never feel you can’t ask for help.

  • Matchmaker Wendy: Turn “Love” Into a Career

    Matchmaker Wendy van Voskuilen

    Global Love Report – October 18, 2023
    English summary by Margaret W

During the pandemic, Wendy van Voskuilen (40) decided to turn “love” into a career. With her matchmaking agency, she bypasses the rigidity of dating apps and helps singles in their search for a partner.

As an HR professional, Wendy has always believed that pursuing one’s passion and maintaining balance contributes greatly to job happiness. It was time for her to lead by example and venture into the most beautiful passion of all: love.

She has always been a matchmaker, introducing people to each other at parties and sharing articles, training, movies, or job opportunities. She also offered relationship and dating advice to her friends and colleagues and noticed an increasing number of people around her getting divorced.

Drawing on her training as an applied psychologist, she decided to create an exclusive matchmaking agency for self-aware, ambitious singles seeking a committed relationship. This led to the establishment of The MatchMaker, where she became known as the love boss.

In the dating agency field, there is room for innovation, especially in terms of personal attention. Understanding the dynamics of meeting a potential love interest, determining compatibility, and managing expectations are key. It’s rare to fall in love on the first date, but a connection is important.

She understands that dating becomes even more challenging when you have children. Finding time amidst work, household responsibilities, social life, and post-divorce adjustments is not easy.

Dating apps come with their own set of problems. It’s difficult to gauge someone’s true nature and compatibility through photos and hobbies alone. Additionally, communication etiquette on these apps can be problematic, with ghosting and inappropriate comments becoming all too common.

She finds candidates from various places, including the physiotherapist’s. She carefully screens them using a questionnaire and by having in-person meetings. Before working for a client, she visits their home to establish a better personal connection.
