What is SEO?

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. And it’s essentially a process of how you can improve the visibility of your website on search engines.

Now, what is a search engine? Google is one. Bing is another. Those are the two search engines that most people would know. For privacy-conscious individuals, there’s DuckDuckGo.

But for the most part, when people think of a search engine, they would naturally think of Google.

Why should you care about SEO?

Because being ranked high on a search engine result page (SERP) can be great for your business. Imagine you’re a matchmaker based in Rhode Island and someone decides to go on Google to search for “Rhode Island matchmaker.”

If your SEO strategy is solid, you may be ranked first.

Why is this important? Because according to research, the first five results on the first search engine results page gets less than 70% of the total clicks. Results 6-10 only get slightly less than 4%. And that’s only for the first page.

So, having great SEO and ranking high for certain keywords can give you the visibility that you need to get clients. It may even lead to new markets or new opportunities.

It also gives your business credibility. If that person searching for a Rhode Island matchmaker sees you in the first SERP, your agency will seem more “legitimate” than if it appeared on pages 3 or 4. Because, again, not a lot of people will keep looking past the first SERP.

Back it up with Good Content

Of course, you do need to back this up with good content. Because while people may click on your website, you will still need to persuade them to take the next step: contacting you. Besides, having good content on your website can also help boost your SEO because Google is partial to good, relevant content.

Additionally, if you decide to tackle SEO on your own, this will be a non-paid way for you to build your brand. Google Ads cost money and frankly, people trust organic search results more than advertising in general.
