  • How Technology Can Help the Matchmaking Industry

how technology can help the matchmaking industry

    Global Love Report – August 11, 2021
A review article by Pamela Stephanie

Taylor Wade, Co-Founder of Ambiance Matchmaking, talks about how technology can help the matchmaking industry.

Wade noted that not everyone can afford a bespoke, high-end matchmaker. Due to this, there’s room for cooperation between dating platforms and experienced matchmakers.

    Blockchain

Wade sees a big potential in blockchain, in terms of how it can improve the matchmaking industry. The use of this technology can help in creating an “identity management system”. One of the biggest issues today is fake accounts and users not divulging their real identity, for example.

However, some companies are already using blockchain to authenticate users with the use of face recognition or voice recognition—data that’s encrypted and saved in blockchain.

    Artificial Intelligence (AI)

One frequent complaint by users is the fact that filtering out incompatible users take a lot of time and “swiping”. However, the use of machine learning can help create a better list of potential matches for users using their preferences.

In fact, there’s already an advanced way that AI is being used in matchmaking in the form of AIMM (The Artificially Intelligent Matchmaker), which uses photos and audio as introductions to matches all the while providing coaching and guidance. Additionally, future AI use can be arranging dates and feedback.

    Augmented Reality

Augmented Reality combines real life and virtual reality, this is arguably a better choice than full VR which may be off-putting for some.

Dating app Flirtar is doing something like this. By using the app, matches can be seen right in front of them thanks to the use of geolocation combined with the AR technology of the app.

    DNA Matchmaking

DNA Matchmaking is the idea of finding your match using your DNA. Currently, the DNA Romance app does this. The creator, Dr. Tim Sexton believes that people with opposite immune system genes end up being better matches versus those with similar genes due to better chemistry between them. The use of DNA collection kits or uploading a DNA profile is necessary in order to find matches.

    The Future

There are a lot of uncertainties with regards to how exactly the industry can utilize existing technology and what kind of changes that will lead to. However, Wade says that both matchmakers and online dating platforms should look into whether or not emerging tech can be utilized by their business and how technology can help the matchmaking industry.

  • Indonesian Agency Heart Inc’s booming business

couple holding hand to illustrate Indonesian matchmaker

    Global Love Report – August 4, 2021
A translated article by Pamela Stephanie

“If we’re talking about love, it’s a life-long journey,” said Zola Yoana in an interview with IDN Times. The woman better known as Zola is the founder of a matchmaking company called Heart Inc. At the company, she’s a matchmaker and a relationship coach for her clients.

    1. The Impact of the pandemic on the development of the matchmaking business: it has tripled!

It has been 8 years since Zola founded Heart Inc. Now, the business has been relaunched with new branding and a new concept. “On July 11th, on my birthday, I rebranded Heart Inc by Zola Yoana. The concept has also changed,” she concluded.

There are a number of services that she manages, including matchmaking, relationship coaching, and image consulting. The thing that has changed from the new look of Heart Inc is the concept: which puts forward a person’s love journey. She said, “So, I don’t just help them find the right person. But I also support them so that they’re successful in their relationship in terms of fostering a healthy and intimate relationship.”

The matchmaking process itself underwent several changes due to the Covid-19 pandemic situation. Some clients postponed the dating process and did the “getting to know” session virtually.

Before doing any matchmaking activities, this 37-year-old woman usually has a live chat session with her clients to get to know them better. “I have to personally meet with my clients, I have to sit with them for at least one hour to get to know more about their personal life. What are their issues, what their previous love story was like, how their character is like, what the aim of their love life is,” she added.

However, this obstacle is not a big problem in the growth of her business. Zola admits that the pandemic has actually brought benefits to Heart Inc. She said, “during the pandemic, our business actually tripled. A lot of people chose to stay at home and be more careful with online dating where it’s not clear who the other person in.”

    2. “Find a partner is part of life’s journey as well. We have to know what we are like and the kind of person that we want,” said Zola.

In the first three years of building Heart Inc, she realized that there was still a stigma attached to the process of matchmaking. This made a lot of people doubt the matchmaking activities that Zola does.

One of those things are that a lot of people think that people who look to a matchmaker for help are people who are desperate about their love life. Zola refutes this, saying, “In fact, you know what you want, that’s why you went to the matchmaker. That means that you don’t want to meet random people again. Desperate is when you know your standard but you lower that standard because you met someone.”

Over time, a lot of people are starting to become more accepting to the work that she does. The age range of her clients is younger now compared to when she first started her business. “In the past, my clients were, on average, 35 years old. The youngest client that I have right now is 27 years old,” she said.

To take part in the program offered by Heart Inc., potential clients can register on their official website. Then, the recruiting team will filter their profile. The second screening process will continue after the prospective clients meet with Zola. “After talking about all kinds of things then I offer them a membership that is suitable for them. Some are for a period of 6 months and also 1 year,” she said.

According to her, this matchmaking program that takes place globally needs to be filtered. Because there are some prospective clients who don’t understand that the concept of love takes time and process. “Finding a partner is part of life’s journey as well. We have to know what we are like and the kind of person that we want,” said Zola.

    3. Zola studied at the Matchmaking Institute for a year

Zola studied at the Matchmaking Institute for a year. While studying there, Zola learned about how to build a matchmaking business and human relations theories. “Speaking about matchmaking, it’s all about intuition, it’s an art. So, it’s like a calling, it’s about helping people, right. That’s why I call it a happiness business,” she said.

This woman with a hobby of traveling is the only certified matchmaker in Indonesia. She has also studied Science-based relationship coaching. Zola’s relationship coach activities has a personal concept. Because according to her, each person has a different relationship problem.

From her matchmaking and coaching activities, Zola admits that she is more grateful in living her life. He said, “Every time I had a problem, but when I hear clients sharing their personal life, I realize that there are a lot more problems that other people out there are experiencing.”
The impact felt by her own clients also differs, according to Zola, one of which is to create hope. She said that in the matchmaking process, clients can develop their own personal growth.

For Zola, the problem of love is not something that can be learned through theory alone. “We don’t learn about love at school, right. If you join Heart Inc, it’s not only about matching, but it’s about your life journey,” she concluded.

    4. This is the difference between the matchmaking process at Heart Inc and online dating

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the problem of finding a partner is a challenge for some people. According to Zola, one of the underlying things is that there a lack of opportunity and time to meet someone. That’s why the getting to know process is mostly done online.

According Zola, there are a few significant differences between Heart Inc’s matchmaking process and online dating apps. The first concerns the security of the user’s profile.

“Through an application, you create your own profile, you can see and talk to anyone. However there’s no screening process at all. So, it’s possible that it’s a false profile,” she said. She emphasized that not all dating applications have a negative impact on its users but caution is needed to go through all the processes.

As explained in the previous point, in the services offered by Heart Inc, there are two screening processes that each potential client have to go through. The screening process and background check is done in a confidential or closed manner. “If it’s online dating, it’s like you’re finding a date. Meanwhile, with my service, it’s like you’re finding the one,” she added.”

During the 8 years of building the business Zola has never given a guarantee that her clients will definitely marry or date. However, she makes sure that each client meets with someone who fits their profile and has the same core values.

Zola feels that there are many unique matchmaking experiences that she has gone through. But, in all of the events, she’s happiest when she matches her client with someone who is outside of their criteria. “They think that it’s not possible with someone of this type, but actually it’s more suitable. Because I can see that they will be a suitable couple,” she added.

    5. The turning point of Zola’s life began at the age of 36. She learned that showing a vulnerable side isn’t a sign of weakness.

Zola’s birthday is on 11th of July 1984. This woman whose zodiac is Cancer admitted that she experienced a turning point on her 36th birthday, in 2020. “So, when someone says life begins at 40, my life began at 36,” she said with a chuckle.

At that time, Zola realized that becoming vulnerable or showing a fragile side is a valuable thing. As someone who works in the matchmaking industry, she confessed that she is familiar with all the theories on love and romance. However, she failed in directly implementing the intimate side.

“Because when I met my current partner, it was then that I learned about vulnerability. I felt a deep connection with myself and my partner. So, I can create a deep emotional intimacy,” she said.

This is the basis for Heart Inc’s re-branding process. She revealed, “when I went through that, that is also what I’m offering to my coaching. I’m focusing more on that. How to build intimacy and how to be vulnerable.”

  • Car Speed Dating in Wiesbaden

couple holding hands in a car to illustrate car speed dating

    Global Love Report – August 4, 2021
A review article by Pamela Stephanie

Thanks to the pandemic, people have resorted to staying in their car in order to enjoy certain things: going to the movies, attending a church service or even being in a concert. And in Wiesbaden, Germany, the car plays another important role for singles.

The city recently had a car speed dating event.

Due to the difficulty of meeting new people during Covid, the Luisenforum shopping center created a very special event for singles. The rules were: 30 lonely hearts (in their cars) would meet at 11 AM on a Saturday on the very top part of the shopping center’s parking deck in search for love.

As for the actual event itself, women have their own “permanent” parking space. And men would drive and park next to a woman’s car. And these parking space neighbors have 3 minutes to converse with their windows down. After the three minutes are up, the men would move their car to the next parking spot.

According to the event organizer, Andreas Dörr, that the event has been popular and they’ve had an almost 50/50 split between men and women. The event isn’t a one-off, either. In fact, they’re already planning more car speed dating events in the future.

And hopefully, after Corona restrictions have been lifted, they’d move the event indoors in the shopping center and leave the cars in the car park.

  • Turning Vaccination into a Dating Event in Holland

    Global Love Report – July 28, 2021
A translated article by Pamela Stephanie

“Dancing with Jansen” is no longer an option, but the residents of Haarlem and the surrounding area can “flirt with Janssen” (note: “sjansen met Janssen) on Friday evening. The Municipal Health Service (GGD) is combining the vaccination of people who want the Janssen Covid vaccine with a dating event.

Adults without medical conditions may sign up and have a short blind date with each other during the 15 minutes waiting period after the shot. For the occasion, the vaccination location at the Kennemer Sports Center will be “transformed into a romantic spot”.

“For many people without a partner, the pandemic has been extra tough,” reports the GGD. During the event, people can meet each other “in an accessible and corona-safe distance”.

With the slogan, “dancing with Janssen”, the outgoing Minister of Health Hugo de Jonge suggested that people could go out immediately after a shot of this vaccine. Although the vaccine needs time to take effect.

When the nightlife became a major source of infections in no time, the cabinet decided that the people must wait two weeks before they can receive a vaccination certificate.

Such a certificate gives access, for example, to events where people don’t have to keep their distance from each other. These will also not be held in the near future because of the explosive increase in the number of infections.

During the event in Haarlem people will just have to stick to Corona safety measures. Even if there’s a spark, people are not supposed to schedule a follow-up date until two weeks later. If there is a follow-up date, the couple will receive “a gift” from the Kennemerland GGD.

  • Matchmaking Collaboration: Who Can Help?

    collaboration

    Global Love Report – July 28, 2021
    Written by: Pamela Stephanie

In some industries, companies are competing fiercely with each other and working with businesses in another industry is also not feasible. Therefore, collaboration is nigh on impossible. The beauty of the matchmaking industry, however, is that collaboration is possible and it’s also a great way to grow your business.

However, are you stumped on exactly who you should collaborate with? Well, we have some suggestions for you.

    Salons

Hair salons or beauty salons can be great to collaborate with. Some matchmakers may offer personal branding coaching as part of their service.

What’s more, people tend to chat with their hairdresser or makeup artist, and thus the workers at the salons do have some ideas as to who may be single and looking.

    Restaurants

Most first dates take place in a restaurant or a café. So, a collaboration between you and a restaurant or café frequented by daters—especially online daters—is a great choice. In fact, it may bring many opportunities your way.

When daters are tired of being unable to find the right one or being unable to get that second date, especially after an unsuccessful date, seeing your business card or any kind of marketing collateral at the restaurant may inspire them to contact your business.

    Divorce Attorneys

Some people who have just gone through a divorce are immediately ready for a relationship. There are people who prefer a relationship to singledom, after all. So, one feasible option for a collaboration is to have one with a divorce attorney.

And even when the recently divorced is not actively seeking, they can also be a potential client in the future, whether it’s a couple of months or even a year from now.

    Other Matchmakers

And of course, there’s also other matchmakers.

Referrals from other matchmakers are extremely valuable, especially if you’re having trouble finding a match with a client. And not only that, for a matchmaker who is starting their business, collaborating with other matchmakers can mean gaining knowledge and experience from them.

Global Love Mastermind covered the topic of Collaboration during the May 2021 Workshop, “Collaboration Guidelines”. Certified Matchmakers can contact the Global Love Institute for more information.

If you’re a Matchmaker but you’re not Certified by the Global Love Institute, please click here for more information on obtaining a Certification.

  • New Matchmaking App for Matchmakers

    Global Love Report – July 28, 2021
A review article by Pamela Stephanie

Mama Knows Best is launching new kind of matchmaking app created in partnership with Masa Israel Journey. The app is currently in beta and it’s aimed at matchmakers to help singles find their match.

However, the term “matchmaker” is valid for anyone, according to the app. So family members and friends can register to be one. The app’s main aim is to be a space where “matchmakers” can interact with each other and find matches for singles.

Matchmakers can create a profile for themselves and also for the singles that they’re planning to match. The singles’ profiles can be shared to other matchmakers as well.

The app is offering something different from other dating sites in that it incorporates a matchmaker’s experience and insights to the selection process. And it’s also the matchmaker who will tap on the “yes” button in order to confirm the match.

For the time being, the matchmaking app is only available in the United States.

  • A Rise in Covid Marriages and Matchmaking in Japan

    Global Love Report – July 28, 2021
A review article by Pamela Stephanie

Although the marriage rate took a hit last year due to the pandemic, the number of Corona marriages in Japan are increasing. Furthermore, successful matchmaking cases have been high. “Corona marriages” are marriages between couples who met after the Covid-19 pandemic began.

According to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, there were 525,490 marriages in 2020, which is 73,500 less than 2019.

However, the number of singles interested in marriage is on the rise.

Data from the Japan Marriage Agency Federation, which has about 2,800 offices throughout Japan, state that the number of matchmaking cases were about 35,000 per month on average before Corona (November 2019 to January 2020). But the numbers dropped to about 21,000 in April 2020 after the first emergency declaration.

Fortunately, the numbers have gradually recovered since then. In May of this year, the number actually reached 46,414—its highest ever.

According to a PR Manager, Risa Terakado, that after the Lehman Brothers disaster and the 2011 Tohoku earthquake, when social unrest occurred, the number of people trying to find a partner increased.

As for the success rates of the matchmaking cases and the rise of Covid marriages, according to a matchmaker at IBJ, the success or failure can be determined on one’s attitude towards the pandemic. Successful couples did not have Covid at the forefront of their mind.

One couple met at least once a week, including dates at home, until the man proposed. The couple managed to find something that worked for them. “If there were limitations, I tried to make it work within that,” said the woman.

  • Vaccine Centers: THE place to Find Dates?

health worker about to vaccinate a woman to illustrate vaccine centers

    Global Love Report – July 21, 2021
A review article by Pamela Stephanie

Thanks to prolonged lockdowns, singles are finding love—or at the very least, a date—in the last place some may think to find it. Vaccine centers wouldn’t be the first place you would think of when you think “dating hotspot”. Yet in certain regions, that’s exactly what they’ve become.

A Korean school teacher reportedly met another teacher while waiting in line. He initially started talking to her to break the silence. However, after finding things in common, they have since gone out on a couple of dates.

More and more young people are going to vaccine centers as vaccination drives expand. Of course, since people on online dating platforms have divulged their desire to have a date who is vaccinated, that is driving more people to vaccine centers.

In the UK, people are actively searching for a date at these centers. One person even noted that people were jumping out of cabs to line up when they see the “dating prospects” waiting in line for a jab.

In places like Beijing and Singapore, more singles are chatting up others while waiting or after they’ve received the vaccine. Some have even advised others to dress up while lining up because of the potential to meet someone.
